It is dedicated to important Greek and Latin texts together with translations and commentaries, as well as detailed introductions, thus rendering them more accessible to a broader readership. Since 2000 the series has concentrated on "Homer's Iliad. A full commentary", presenting the text of the Iliad (by M. L. West), a translation (by J. Latacz) and a commentary in German.

Introduction, translation into Italian and commentary of the oration Contro Timoteo, delivered by the orator Apollodorus in the 60s of the 4th century BC and included in the corpus Demosthenicum.

The introduction deals with issues related to the type of legal action, the dating of the speech, the structure and legal relevance of the arguments put forward by the orator, and the figure of the banker in the socio-economic landscape of classical Athens. The introduction is completed with a prosopographical appendix on the historical figures mentioned in the text (Callistratus, Iphicrates, Jason, Alceta) and a section on the manuscript tradition, as well as a textual note. The introduction is followed by the translation, the first in Italian for this text. Finally, the long commentary, the first extensive commentary the oration has received.

The volume will provide a useful working tool for scholars and students who find themselves having to consult or read the oration Against Timothy. Indeed, both the introduction and the commentary combine a close philological, historical and legal analysis of the text with a focus on the most recent theoretical models (Neosubstantivism, New Institutional Economics, New Institutional History).

The long felt absence of a trustworthy critical edition of Philostratus’ Life of Apollonius of Tyana has been remedied by the publication of the new Teubner edition of this text, published in 2022. In the preface to the edition the publication of a companion volume was announced. This book fulfils this promise.

After an introduction dealing with the transmission of the text and with Philostratus’ Greek there follows an extensive series of critical notes in which a large number of editorial choices are explained. In these notes much attention is paid both to the morphological and syntactic peculiarities of Greek of the Imperial period in general and to the idiosyncratic syntax employed by Philostratus in particular. The notes deal with every aspect of the text, ranging from the use of particles and word order to moods and tenses, and containing ample discussions of conjectures and interpretations of earlier scholars.

This book is an indispensable working tool for scholars using the new Teubner edition of the Life of Apollonius. It also caters for the needs of students of Greek language and literature in general, and especially of those interested in the Second Sophistic and the works of Flavius Philostratus.

Aristotle's Poetics is perhaps the most important ancient text on literary theory; he develops and justifies the term 'poetry' for the first time, defines tragedy and epic in particular as genres and provides criteria for assessing the quality of poetry.

The text of the Poetics has been intensively analysed and interpreted since the beginning of modern philology: Considerable progress has been made in researching the textual form and the individual sections, some of which are difficult to understand, particularly in recent times: The transmission has been newly clarified through the re-evaluation of an important manuscript (B) and the Arabic translation, and significant new suggestions for understanding central passages and concepts are available.

This book aims to present this by means of a newly constituted text, a close translation and a philological commentary. In an appendix, sections that are relevant for the reconstruction of the lost part of the Poetics are presented and commented on in two languages.

The verse-by-verse commentary on the Ovidian text includes the reading of more than 300 manuscripts, including the so-called Heinsian manuscripts, and of almost 100 editions, from the two "editiones principes" of 1471 to the present day.
The introduction describes the manuscripts used, and a history of the Ovidian editions is also traced.
A new text of book VI is presented, accompanied by a slim and lucid critical apparatus. Futher information appears in the commentary and in the appendices, particularly readings of manuscripts and editions.
The verbatim commentary offers, with reliable quotes for each term, the critical observations of all the editors and commentators of the Ovidian work throughout the centuries. This aspect of critical edition has been neglected by commentators of Ovid since Heinsius (1659) and Burman (1727).
Two appendices ("Readings of manuscripts" and "Readings of editions") are added for the first time for readers of the Ovidian work.
The volume closes with a "Select index of textual problems", a large "Index locorum" and an "Index nominum".

Recently there has been a constant increase in secondary literature on Manilius’ cosmological didactic poem, written in the late-Augustan/early-Tiberian period. However, a concentration on ideological-political or narratological perspectives means that attention has been focused on individual passages, prooemia, excurses or other marginal sections, while the main material, the astrological teachings, have been neglected. However, above all in the last century, our knowledge of astrology has been significantly furthered by numerous (new) editions of the works of Teukros of Babylon, Dorotheos, Vettius Valens and Hephaistion. These texts are particularly important for our understanding of the fifth book of the Astronomica.

Ein deutschsprachiger wissenschaftlicher Gesamtkommentar zu Homers Ilias ist seit dem Kommentar von Ameis-Hentze-Cauer (1868-1913) nicht mehr erschienen. In der Zwischenzeit hat die Homer-Forschung auf sämtlichen traditionellen Teilgebieten (Sprache, Realien, Struktur usw.) erhebliche Fortschritte gemacht. Darüber hinaus sind grundsätzlich bekannte Bereiche wie z.B. die Erzählforschung auf eine systematische Grundlage gestellt worden. Schließlich sind mit Mykenologie (Linear B) und Oral-poetry- sowie Troia-Forschung gänzlich neue Möglichkeiten der Texterschließung hinzugekommen.Ausgehend von der Basis des alten Ameis-Hentze-Cauer spiegelt der Kommentar den gegenwärtigen Kenntnisstand der Homer-Forschung in umfassender Breite wider. Der ‘Basler Kommentar’ zur Ilias wird von der Fachwelt als neues Grundlagenwerk weltweit stark beachtet.Ein inhaltlich und formal neuartiges Konzept kommt den Bedürfnissen unterschiedlicher Benutzergruppen entgegen. This book deals with a text which has been a mystery to research concerning its temporal and spatial sphere up to now. Nevertheless it is of great importance to understand late ancient linguistics and their continuing influence on the Middle Ages. This comment to Ars maior by Donat being in the tradition of Servius has been known to be written by the Christian statesman and author Cassiodor. Nonetheless the authorship is still not solved because assigning the text to Cassiodor is less based on transmission, but rather on the rash theory of a French philologist who edited the text for the first time in the 17th century. With regard to content the tract is about the octo partes orationis, namely the eight parts of speech noun, pronoun, adverb, participle, conjunction, preposition and interjection.

For today's user this text has been difficult to get hold of because just a part of the existing transmission was the basis for the first and only edition of 1679 and its reprint of 1848. Therefore a revised edition is placed at the beginning of this thesis which considers apart from the old version a still existing manuscript from early Carolingian times as well as a broad secondary transmission. The second part consists of a comment regarding an analysis of language and content. Its aim is to answer the questions concerning time and place of origin, its position in literary history, its author and its continuing influence. Consequently this specific version enriches the series of comments written by Donat transmitted from late ancient times. Additionally it contributes to modern linguistics regarding the research of early stages in language theory.
